Albert R. "Red" Truitt, 79, of Linton, passed away at 6:45 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 14, 2001 at Terre Haute Regional Hospital. Born Dec. 16, 1921 in Greene County, he was the son of Claude E. and Josephine (Potter) Truitt. He was a Linton police officer, head cashier at Citizens National Bank, and worked for Peabody Coal Co., retiring 1989. He was a veteran of U.S. Army in World War II. He was a member of the Bethel Baptist Church; active in Linton 105 Fraternal Order of Police, where he was a life member. He was Past Commander of American Legion Post 22 Linton, a life member of VFW Post 7118; a l life member DAV Chapter 99, Past Exalted Ruler of Linton Elks 866, Past President of the Southwest District of Elks Assoc.; Past Master of Linton Masonic Lodge 560 F&AM, Scottish Rite Valley of Terre Haute, Zorah Shrine, Greene County Shrine; he was First President and a 10-year Board of Directors member; active in Boys Baseball, the Grand Cross of Color/Rainbow Girls; Demolay for Boys, and was a school board member. Survivors include his wife, Barbara J. (Brown) Truitt of Linton; one son and daughter-in-law, Terry and Rose Truitt of Shelbyville; one daughter, Linda Bedwell of Linton; one brother, Donald Truitt of New Albany; seven grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by two brothers, James and Willard Truitt, and his parents. Funeral services will be held at the Anderson-Poindexter Linton Memory Chapel at 1 p.m. Saturday with the Rev. Eddie Egbert officiating. Burial will follow at the Fairview Cemetery in Linton.
