He was born on May 5, 1933, in Weston, a son of the late Burr and Vinnie Henderson Furr.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by six siblings, Jessie Palulis, Mary Ernestine Wesell, Alma Ruth Cronmiller, Parker Furr and two infant sisters. Mr. Furr was formerly married to Gwendolyn Thomas of Louisiana, who also preceded him in death.
He is survived by one son, Russell Furr; two daughters, Donnis Furr and Rita; seven grandchildren, April Furr Gettings, Kimberly Furr Smith, Seth Furr, Clayton Carder, Aaron Hall, Witley Holcomb and Jacob Johnson; four great-grandchildren, Sierra, Miranda and Kiley Gettings and Raegan Smith; special nieces, Pam Melvin, Barbara Cronmiller and Ruth Ann Puckett; special nephew, Charles Cronmiller and several other nieces, nephews and cousins.
Mr. Furr was a veteran of the U.S. Army, having served during the Korean War. He was retired from the Weston State Hospital with 30 years of service. He loved coon hunting, reading and working on the family farm.
The family will receive friends from 4 - 7 p.m. on Saturday, December 21, 2013, at the Heavner and Cutright Funeral Chapel in Buckhannon. The funeral will be held on Sunday, December 22, 2013, at 1:30 p.m. at the funeral chapel with Rev. Russell Furr officiating. Interment will follow in the Mt. Carmel Baptist Church Cemetery, where the Lewis County Honor Guard will conduct military services.
The Furr family has entrusted the Heavner and Cutright Funeral Chapel of Buckhannon with the arrangements.
