Graduated from Charleston Catholic HS where he excelled in sports and in the classroom. He was one of only two athletes to win 10 Varsity Letters in Baseball, Basketball, and Football. He earned a scholarship in Basketball at Regis College, Denver, Colorado, where he excelled not only on the court but in the classroom. He served in the military and while stationed in California, he met and married Amelia Joanne Ferrenti.
John loved to fish and hunt.

Brothers William, Arthur, Leo, and Bernard all were veterans of WWII. William lost a leg near Anzio (purple heart), and Leo lost his life as a tank Commander during the Battle of the Bulge and is buried in Arlington National Cemetery.
