Annetta Eulalia Valliant Betton, hence the name ‘Neta Lou’ for the Eastern Shore friends and ‘Lou’ for the Millsboro friends passed away Sunday, March 17th, 2019 surrounded by an adoring family who loved her very much.

She was born in Easton, MD on August 17th, 1928 and grew up in the Bellevue, Oxford and St. Michael area, graduating from St. Michael’s high school. She headed to the University of Maryland, graduating in Elementary Education, where she met George Gilbert Betton, her husband of 53 years until his passing in 2001 after a long battle with Alzheimer’s.

She was a teacher in the Millsboro area for many, many years, enjoying, later in life, the many people who would stop and say ‘Aren’t you Mrs. Betton? You were my 1st grade teacher!” She loved that!

She was one of the longest standing members of Grace United Methodist Church in Millsboro and loved her church family; she so enjoyed her monthly outings with the RATS, the retired teachers group; she loved getting together with her bridge club, some of whom she had been playing with for 50 years; she loved knitting and, believe it or not, well over 100 Millsboro families have Christmas stockings that were made by Mrs. Betton! She loved boating and even enjoyed jet skiing well into her late 70’s! If you know anything about her at all, you also know that her passion was raising awareness and money for the Alzheimer’s association, having received many awards and accolades at the state level.

She is survived by her many friends and her family to include her three children, Kathy Betton Ellis with her husband Rick Ellis, Gail Betton Kelso and George G. Betton, Jr. with his wife, Valarie Betton; her grandchildren Brittany Kelso Perry with her husband Tykee Perry, Josh Kelso with his wife Margaret Kelso, Courtney Betton Mayer with her husband Ryan Mayer and Linley Betton Booth with her husband Spencer Booth; and 10 great-grand children, Trinity Kelso, Kamdyn Shockley, Cohen Perry, Maysen Kelso, Asher Kelso, Chase Mayer, Cobe Mayer, Pippa Booth, Rory Booth, Margot Booth. Jim Powell was also a long time companion of Mrs. Betton.

Her service will be at Watson Funeral home in Millsboro, DE at 1PM with visitation from noon to 1PM. Committal will be at the Millsboro Cemetery.
