From the Austin Daily Herald, August 9, 1900:

Suddenly Called from the Life Here to the Life to Come.
Mrs. Peter McCormick, 58, died suddenly at her home on Mankato street Wednesday evening.

Among the sad deaths that have occurred during the present year, one of the saddest was that of Mrs. McCormick whose departure was so sudden that it came as a sudden blow to the family, wholly unexpecting such a sad scene.

Seated on the piazza with her relatives and a few friends she was enjoying the cooling breezes that followed a close and sultry summer's day. Suddenly she fell over against her son David who sat by her side. He raised her to her chair and sent for medicine. Even then it was not thought that the end was so near. David left his mother in care of one of the others and himself went for the medicine. On his return he found his mother in very bad condition. He carried her to her bed and Dr. Hegge and Father Devlin were summoned. It was about 8 o'clock when the first shock occurred. From that time Mrs. McCormick lay unconscious and died at about 9:30.

Mrs. McCormick has not been well for some time, having suffered a slight shock last winter. She had many times since complained of heart trouble and the family always kept medicine at hand to relieve the attacks. Great sympathy is expressed for the family. The funeral will be held from St. Augustine's church Friday morning at 9:30.

Katherine Keefe was born in Franklin County, New York in 1847 and with her parents moved to Freeborn county in 1862. In 1869 she married Peter McCormick, our well known citizen and has since made her home here.

Three years ago death claimed a member of this family, a young lady who had a host of friends. Three children, David, Michael and Nellie survive. Mr. McCormick is heart broken over his loss.

At Rest.
The funeral of Mrs. Katherine McCormick who died very suddenly of heart trouble Wednesday evening was held in St. Augustine's church at 9:30 this morning. Rev. E. H. Devlin conducted the services. Interment was made in the Catholic cemetery. The attendance to the funeral was large. Mrs. McCormick is among the list of Mower County's oldest residents and her pleasant face will be greatly missed by all who knew her.
