SMYRNA - Barry E. Short, 89, died Dec. 11, 2013, in Houlton. He was born Nov. 14, 1924, in Aurora, Ill., the son of Ned and Viola (Diem) Short.

He was a veteran of the U.S. Army serving during World War II and a Civil Service officer for the Air Force, retiring after 20 plus years. He was on the Board of Directors of Aroostook Area Agency on Aging and a member of the Good Sam Club.

He is survived by his four children, Kerry Leone and her husband, Robert, of Gray, Kevin Short of Smyrna, Kelli White and her husband, James, of E. Wareham, Mass., and Jason Short and his wife, Wendy, of Norfolk, Va.; nine grandchildren; a great-granddaughter; and several nieces and nephews.

Graveside funeral service will be held in the spring at Smyrna Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, those who wish may donate to the Alzheimer's Association, 383 US Route 1, Suite 2C, Scarborough, ME 04074. (Bowers Funeral Home)
