Died, at Moriah, N.Y., on Thursday, March 4, Mr. John Titus, in the 97th year of his age. Mr. Titus was born in the town of Rehobath, Mass., in the year 1762, where he lived until he was about sixteen years of age, when he entered the American Army. During the war of the Revolution he was out in a great many campaigns, and fought under various distinguished Generals, sharing largely in the toils and sufferings of those who bled in freedom's cause. At the close of the war he engaged as a sailor, and for some time was employed in the whale fishery. He wife still survives him, retaining her health and faculties to an unusual degree, being about 94 years of age. After his marriage, Mr. Titus served six years, making in all nine years of sea faring life. Returning from the sea, he engaged in the business of shoemaking, which was his occupation for many years. In the war of 1812 Mr. Titus again took the field, being then 50 years old. He was wounded in an engagement near Ogdensburgh, on account of which he has since drawn a pension. Soon after receiving this wound, his second son was killed in the battle of Bridgewater. At the last Presidential election, Mr. Titus came to the polls, and after depositing his vote for John C. Fremont, remarked that he voted for George Washington, the first President of the United States; that he had voted at every Presidential election since, and that now he had cast his vote for President and for freedom, and was ready for roll-call. Of his posterity, there are now living one son and four daughters, 60 great grand children, six or eight of the fifth generation, or great grand children's children.
