Elizabeth Manning was 2nd of five children born to James and Nancy Jane (Hunter) Manning. When she was a little girl, the family moved from Indiana to Appanoose County, Iowa; her mother died shortly thereafter.

On December 17, 1868 Elizabeth married Cyrus S. Hedgecock, in Appanoose County, Iowa. They were the parents of five children:
James Madison (1869-1958, died in Knox County, Missouri);
Jacob Simpson (1870-1960, died in Kansas City, Missouri);
Dolly (1872), buried in Haines cemetery;
Laura A (1874-1886) buried in Haines cemetery;
Charles Edward (1876-1956),died in Los Angeles.

Her death was announced, simply, on Nov. 24, 1886 in the "Centerville (Iowa) Citizen", page 3 column 6, under ""DIED":
HEDGECOCK--on Sunday, Nov. 21st, at her residence in Douglas township, Mrs. Cyrus Hedgecock.

Elizabeth's burial is recorded in the Haines Cemetery book, page 27.
