Hiram ALLEN was born in Campbell County, Tennessee, January 24, 1821. When about six years old he removed with his father to Rush County, Indiana. His early boyhood was spent there, and when about thirteen or fourteen years old his father removed to Greene County, Indiana. Mr. ALLEN was married in 1841 to Lucinda SPENCER, and lived in Daviess County, Indiana, until after the time of her death, which occurred in 1862. Eight children were born unto them, five of whom are living. He made the confession to unite with the Church of Christ in September 1845, and united with the M. E. church at Scotland in the winter of 1862-‘63.

He was married to Milley O'DONALD, May 12, 1863. This union was blessed with six children, only two of whom, B. L. and A. E. ALLEN, are living. After the death of his second wife, he married Lucinda MITCHELL, and after her death, Elizabeth KENT, who still survives him.

He died September 27, 1896, at his home in Taylor Township, aged seventy-five years, eight months and three days, after a lingering illness of about three weeks of that terrible disease, typhoid fever. He bore his sickness with patience and suffering and passed very peacefully and quietly away. He said the day before he died that he "wanted to go home."

Mr. ALLEN was a resident of this part of the State for over sixty years and was well known and highly respected by a wide circle of friends. He leaves a wife and seven children to mourn his loss. The funeral services were held on September 28, at Walnut Grove church, Mood Cemetery, and were conducted by Rev. E. M. LOVE, of the Church of God.

Hiram ALLEN married Lucinda SPENCER on 12 Oct 1841 in Martin County, Indiana.
