Cleta Agnes Baker Porter Obituary

Cleta Agnes Baker Porter, daughter of Irvin Burton Brown and Nellie Agnes Godfrey Brown, was born September 27, 1911 in Putnam County, Missouri and passed away at the Seymour Care Center March 11, 1983 at the age of 71 years, 5 months 14 days.

Cleta was united in marriage to Kermit Baker on September 5, 1931 in Putnam County, Missouri and to this union four children were born. Kermit preceded her in death on November 5, 1961. She married Levi Porter in October 1972 and he passed away in Mya 1973. Cleta was also preceded in death by her parents, three brothers: Orval, Ira, and Everett Brown.

Cleta is survived by her four children: Mrs. Junior (Mary) Stufflebeem, Centerville; Irvin (Bill) Baker, Centerville; Mrs. Leroy (Betty) Sager, Seymour; and Zelda Mae Baker, Bethel Pennsylvania; two sons-in-law; Leroy Sager and Junior Stufflebeem, daughter-in-law Carolyn Baker; thirteen grandchildren and three great granddaughters. She is also survived by brothers; John, Jesse, and Tommy Brown.

Cleta and Kermit spent most of their married life in the Brush College area until 1951 when they moved to a farm never Centerville. After Kermit’s death, she moved to Centerville in 1964 and later to the Seymour Care Center when her health began failing.

In recent years Cleta accepted Christ as her Savior and attended the Assembly of God Church as long as her health permitted.

Services were held Monday, March 14, 1983, at 1:30 P.M. from the Randolph Funeral Home in Seymour with the Rev. Paul Huffey officiating. Hymns “The Old Rugged Cross” and “How Great Thou Art” were sung by Merrill Womach. The pallbearers were Glenn Brown, Garald Godfrey, Charles Brown, Lloyd Brown, Bob Brown, and Ken Banks.

Interment was in the Southlawn Cemetery.

There was a memorial to the Seymour Assembly of God Church.
