Brother Gene Vinson, 78, was the son of the late Paul Livingston and Addie Lou Barden Vinson. On June 24, 1957 he married Mary Frances Owens Vinson who preceded him in death on September 10, 2009. He attended Bob Jones University where he received his Bachelors and Master degree in English and Ministry. He left seminary and moved back to Thomasville where he started and was the first Pastor for Newark Baptist Church and then Trinity Baptist Church.

Brother Vinson taught eighth grade English at Central High School for 8 years and was principal at Rose City Christian School. He also worked in construction. He loved watching his grandchildren play ball and taking them fishing. From football to basketball and softball he rarely missed a game. He was known as Pawpaw. He loved sports, outdoors, fishing, hunting, church and family. He was a kind loving man who loved and served The Lord. He read his Bible and prayed daily. Brother Vinson was a friend to many; he led many people to the Lord and nothing blessed him more than for another soul to be saved. He never realized until lately how many lives he touched and when anyone would tell him he would light up and felt such a wonderful sense of gratefulness to be able to help do God's work.

Survivors include sons, Donald and Kent; daughter-in-laws, Paula and Jennifer; grandchildren, Ethan and Angie, Chelsea and Michael, Brittany and Zach, Rylee, Kalli, Talmadge, Vance, Hollis; great grandchild, Chloe; siblings, Vance (Red) Vinson and Ida Butler. He was preceded in death by a daughter Beverly Joy Vinson, brothers, Skip, Pete, Byron and Jim and sisters, Pauline and Addie Mae.
