One of five sons born to Frederick & Elizabeth (Weber) Kuntz, both of Hessen, Dreisbach, Germany and late of Manilla, Rush Co IN, John married Mahala "Haley" Warfield 18 Aug 1891 in Rush Co IN, the daughter of James Rafter & Mary Jane (Mavity) Warfield of Manilla, Rush Co IN.

Children with Haley:
1) Frederick "Fred" James Kuntz (1892-1994); m. Florine Wendling.
2) Mary Elizabeth Kuntz (1895-1960); m. Shirley M Jonas.
3) Alice M Kuntz (b: 1897); m. Darley R Wendling.
4) Sarah Rebecca Kuntz (1900-1998); m. Earl A Theobald.
5) Earl Allen Kuntz (1904-1964); m. Iva Joan Skillman.

John's occupation, according to the 1930 Census, was cobbler, employed by a harness shop. During this year, Haley's brother Adam Warfield, widowed and aged 79 yrs old, was residing with them in Rushville, Rush Co IN.

"John Kuntz Dies Of Heart Attack
John C. Kuntz, 79, died at his home in Blue Ridge Tuesday afternoon at 1:30 after suffering a heart attack earlier. He had been in usual good health and death was unexpected.
He was born in Rush County Aug. 17, 1869, a son of Frederick and Elizabeth Weber Kunt. He was formerly a farmer and harness maker at Manilla and had lived in Blue Ridge only a year. He was a member of the Manilla Methodist Church.
Mr. Kuntz married Mahala Ann Warfield August 18, 1891, who survives with two sons, Fred and Earl Kuntz of Shelby County; three daughters, Mrs. Earl Theabold, Shelby County, Mrs. Darly Wendling, near Manilla, and Mrs. Shirley Jonas, Manilla; a brother, George Kuntz, near Manilla; 15 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held at 2:30 p. m. Thursday at the Carmony Funeral Home, Manilla, in charge of the Rev. David Shepherd and Rev. Samuel Regal. Friends may call at the late residence until 11 a. m. Thursday, when the body will be taken to the funeral home. Burial will be in the Manilla cemetery."
