Albert F. Publicover of Arlington, president of the detective and security agency that bears his name, died Tuesday in Symmes Hospital. He was 78.

Mr. Publicover, who was graduated from the High School of Commerce in Boston and the Massachusetts College of Art, was a past president of the Massachusetts Assn. of Licensed Detective Agencies, and a member of the World Assn. of Detectives and the American Society of Industrial Security Agents.

Last year the Massachusetts group honored Mr. Publicover with its distinguished service award. He was called "the dean of industrial security agents."

He leaves five sons, Robert L. of Wayland, Gerald S. of Orlando, Fla., andRoy K., Bruce A. and Brian P., all of Arlington; a sister, Marjorie R. Publicover of Arlington; 16 grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

A funeral Mass will be said tomorrow at 10 a.m. in St. Agnes' Church, Arlington. Burial will be in St. Joseph's Cemetery, West Roxbury.
