NEWPORT NEWS - Clarence Romaine Albea, 64, passed away peacefully Thursday, Oct. 6, 2005. He was a native of Waterbury, Conn. After graduation from Livingston College in 1963, he became a peninsula resident. His professional career in education began with the Newport News Public School System. Clarence served in the United States Army from 1966 to 1968. He worked with the Office of Human Affairs and later returned to the Newport News Public School System as a School Court Coordinator. He was also a part time employee at O. H. Smith & Son Funeral Home for many years. Clarence was dedicated to the youth of the community and their parents, providing guidance and intervention with the court system. Due to his passionate love for his work, many youth were led to the straight road of life. His occupational zeal encouraged him to pursue and receive his masters degree in administration and guidance from Hampton Institute in 1975. He retired from the Newport News School System in August 2005, after 38 years of service. Clarence was a member of St. Augustine's Episcopal Church, a 32nd Degree Mason, and a dedicated member of Omega Psi Phi Fraternity for 44 years. "Rommy" as he was known by many, was preceded in death by his parents, Clarence A. and Gertrude Austin Albea, and his brother, Earl Albea. He leaves to cherish his memory, his wife of 39 years, Hermine Bacote Albea; two children, Victor Romaine Albea (Tracie) and Odea Lynette Albea; two grandchildren, Victor Aaron and Miya Charlotte Albea; two brothers, Reginald Albea (Michelle) of Nebraska and Charles Albea (Cheryl) of Connecticut; one sister, Sara Mae Albea of Connecticut; nieces, Nona B. Holmes, Shelly and Katie Albea and Naketta Pearshall; nephews, Timothy Bacote and Phillip Albea; mother-in-law, Lucille Bacote; great- nieces, I'ana Holmes and Ta'Leah Bacote; great- nephews, Dwayne and Dontrell Albea; sister-in-law, LaVerne Bacote; brothers-in-law, LeRoy Bacote (Judy) and Ralph Bacote (Jean); adopted son, Michael Robinson; and other extended family, friends, and co-workers. A funeral service will be held noon, Tuesday, Oct. 11, at St. Augustine's Episcopal Church, 2515 Marshall Avenue, Newport News. Interment will follow in Greenlawn Memorial Park. Viewing will be from 1 to 8 p.m. Monday, at the funeral home and two hours prior to the service at the church on Tuesday. Proficient service and compassionate care rendered by O. H. Smith & Son Funeral Home.
