Captain (Ret) Charles A. Balmat 78, of Englewood, passed away November 6, 2013. He was born April 7, 1934 in Winchester, Virginia to John and Virginia Balmat.

He was raised by his beloved step mother and father Laurie and John Balmat. He spent his childhood in Conway, Arkansas.

He graduated from high school in 1952 and was appointed to the U.S. Merchant Marines Academy graduating in 1956.
After graduation he was accepted by the Dominican Order of the Priesthood and went to their prep college in Rhode Island. After a year he returned to the Merchant Marines and served as a Freighter Captain until his retirement in 1985.
While on shore leave he obtained his L.P.N. license in 1984.

Charles leaves the love of his life and wife of 15 years Phyllis Balmat.

Funeral mass will be held on Thursday November 14 at 10:00 a.m. at St. Raphael's Catholic Church in Englewood with burial to follow at Gulf Pines Memorial Park in Englewood.

In lieu of flowers donations may be made to St. Raphael's, 770 Kilborne Ave., Englewood 34223.
