Additional information provided by Gary Hancharik: Walter Ray "Buddy" Taylor, resident of the Rossville Community, longtime volunteer Fire Chief for the Rossville Fire Department and husband of Janet Huffman Taylor departed this life Tuesday evening, December 10, 2013 at the Baptist Memorial Hospital in Memphis. He was 65 years of age and died following a brief illness. Services of Remembrance for Mr. Taylor were conducted at 2 P.M. Friday, December 13th at the Peebles West Funeral Chapel at Oakland with Bro. Jonathan Childers of the Red Banks Baptist Church in Red Banks, Mississippi officiating. Interment followed in the Magnolia Cemetery at Collierville. Arrangements were provided by Peebles Fayette County Funeral Homes & Cremation Center — West Chapel at Oakland. Mr. Taylor was born August 2, 1948 in Rossville. He was preceded in death by his parents, Walter Carl Taylor and Tennessee Calidonia Kennon Taylor. He received his education in the Fayette County Public School System and had been a resident of the Rossville Community for much of his life. He was married March 20, 1971 to the former Janet Huffman, who survives. Mr. Taylor was a Christian and of the Baptist faith. He had been involved in firefighting activities for much of his life and had served for a number of years as the Volunteer Fire Chief of the Rossville Fire Department. Mr. Taylor was also employed by the Wal-Mart Corporation before his retirement. In addition to his wife of 42 years, Mr. Taylor is survived by three daughters, Andrea Taylor of Grand Rivers, KY, Lori Nelson (Ray) of Rossville, Samantha Ellis (James) of Oakland; two sisters, Jane Matthews (Bill) of Olive Branch, MS, Bettye Chapman (Jim) of Rossville; and four grandchildren. Those honored to serve as casketbearers were Ben Wilson, Wayne Hampton, Allen Wilkerson, Tony Kennon, John Barnett and Dennis Rutledge. Honorary casketbearers were all of those associated with the area fire departments. The family requests that memorials be directed to the Fayette County Chapter of the American Cancer Society, c/o Linda Taylor, 16845 U.S. Highway 64, Somerville, TN 38068.
