Ronald Ansel Ammerman, 85, of Saco, Ulster RD 2, died Thursday Nov. 29, 1990 at Memorial Hospital, Towanda after sustaining a fall at his farm on Wednesday, Nov. 28, 1990. Born Oct. 25, 1905 in Ulster Township he was a son of Ansel W. and Lena Phelps Ammerman. Ronald graduated from Ulster High School in 1922 and served as a substitute mail carrier for the Ulster area for 49 years. During his first year as mail carrier, he delivered the mail by horse and buggy. He also owned and operated his own dairy farm in Saco for many years. Mr. Ammerman was a member of the Ulster Village Presbyterian Church for many years and enjoyed the fellowship dinners and meetings there. He was a member of the Ulster Grange No. 173 for 65 years having served for 44 years as secretary and was a member of the Ulster Area School Board for 29 years. Ronald loved his wife, family, farm and especially his mail route as he met and made so many friends. Surviving are his wife, Ellen McKinney Ammerman, at home; a son and daughter-in-law, Ansel Eugene and Barbara Ammerman of Ulster RD 2; two daughters and sons-in-law; Carol and Julius Busch of Richton Park, Ill. And Doris and Thomas W. Bennett of Monroeton RD 1; two stepdaughters and sons-in-law, Joyce and Kenneth Baker and Irma and Stanley Roberts all of Lowman, N.Y.; a step-son and daughter-in-law, Arthur and Pat Shaddock of Lakeland, Fla.; a sister, Mrs. Diantha Burdick of Ely, Nev.; 16 grandchildren; several nieces, nephews and cousins. He was preceded in death by his first wife, Nancy Hicks Ammerman in 1976; by a daughter, Norma Ammerman Coldiron in 1965 and by two great-grandchildren. The family will receive friends Sunday afternoon from 2 to 4 p.m. at the Bowen-Farr Funeral Home with the Rev. Dr. James L. Smith Sr. officiating. Burial will be in the Ulster Cemetery. The Ulster Grange No. 173 will hold a memorial service Sunday at 2 p.m. at the funeral home. Friends who wish may direct memorials to the Ulster Village Presbyterian Church in Ronald's memory.
