Bonnie (Nickerson) Durk of Hallsville loved to travel.
Columbia Missourian
She moved to Germany and worked there after graduating from high school. She also visited Europe and parts of the Middle East. Her interest in photography led her to make photo slides of her journeys, daughter Renee Hoemann said.
Mrs. Durk died Sunday, Nov. 22, 2009. She was 81.
She was born March 7, 1928, in Bethany to Edward Richard and Leora Pearl (Sutton) Nickerson. She met her husband, Richard Durk, on a blind date and married him six months later on June 2, 1957, in Columbia.
Her hobbies included quilting and collecting things to put in her home. She loved bells, thimbles and even commemorative plates, Hoemann said.
She was a secretary at Hallsville Elementary School before her retirement. She was also a member of Red Top Christian Church, Red Hat Society, Hallsville Historical Society and Locust Grove Club.
"The Hallsville community speaks very highly of her," sister-in-law Esther Fetterhoff said. "Proverbs 31:25 describes her best: 'Strength and honor are her clothing; and she shall rejoice in time to come.'"
Mrs. Durk is survived by a daughter of Bellingham, Wash.; a son, Keith Durk of Columbia; a sister, Dorothy Bolton of the state of California; seven grandchildren, Ryan Durk, Brendan Durk, Bethany Hoemann, Andrew Hoemann, Connor Hoemann, Logan Durk and Colby Durk; and numerous family and friends, including her sister-in-law.
Her parents; a son, Kendall; an infant son, Kevin; and sister, Madge Phillips, died earlier.
