Mrs. Irene Musgrove, age 91, who was raised and lived in the Jones Schoolhouse Community, most of her lifetime, passed away Friday, December 18, 2015 in the Hospice in the Pines, Lufkin. Mrs. Musgrove was born February 27, 1924 in Crockett to parents, John Henry Beavers and Mary Oda Harrison Beavers. She was a member of the San Pedro Baptist Church.

She is survived by son, John Royce Musgrove; daughter, Gleda Brady and husband, Larry ; granddaughters, Angie Haney, Rhonda Keene, Darla Collins and husband, Russ, Marcus Stephens, Kara Telgemeyer and Ceara Stevens.

Irene Musgrove is going to be missed by many. She knew so much history of Jones Schoolhouse and Belott Communities. She started school in Jones Schoolhouse, but decided it was better to go to Latexo, since she could catch the bus and not have to walk. She could tell wonderful stories of her Christmas childhood, leaving home in the wagon, stopping and picking up cousins, ending up at her Grandmother Harrison's for Christmas Eve and going with her grandpa to cut the tree. Her grandmother always gave the men a shirt and the women material for a dress. The boys always got a red ball and the girls got pink panties. One of Billy's fondest memories of Miss Irene, is it is best to pay attention to what she tells you. He and John Royce wanted to go swimming in the tank, she said no. Well off they went, hadn't been swimming 10 minutes. Here came Miss Irene. Grabbed her a switch and tanned their hides, she did not give them time to get their clothes on. He said that was the one and only time he went swimming when Miss Irene said no.

She told about riding the train back from Houston during World War II. When they crossed the Trinity River Bridge, the river was so high, it was hitting the side of the train, she prayed. She just knew the train was going to get washed off the tracks. She and JB married January 29, 1942. Then he was off defending our Country. She worked and saved the money to buy the place that has been her home for over 70 years. I am going to miss her.

Mrs. Musgrove was preceded in death by husband, J.B. Musgrove; parents, Henry and Oda Beavers and sister, Dreta Pridgen, and great-grandson, John Dylan Strawn.

Funeral services for Mrs. Irene Musgrove will be held Monday, December 21, 2015 at 11:00 a.m. in the Callaway-Allee Memorial Chapel with Rev. Ottis Byers. Interment will follow in the New Energy Cemetery.
