Born in Hardin County, Kentucky, he was reared on his father's homestead where he farmed until his marriage to Mary Monroe in 1825. Following his marriage he moved to Barren County, Kentucky, where he continued farming. In 1833, he returned to levelwoods, LaRue County, Kentucky and farmed for his father.
In 1843, he moved to the former home of William Killen which adjoined the Baird Homestead. The property consisting of 143 acres, had just been purchased by Rev. Baird. In 1853, John, Jr., bought the Killen property from the Baird estate for the sum of $171.00. He lived there until his death in 1867. He was a Methodist and became a member of the Levelwoods Methodist Church at an early age. He and his wife are interred in the family cemetery on the Rev. John Baird homestead, Levelwoods, LaRue County, Kentucky.
The Rev. John Baird provided in his will that his son, John take care of his mother during her lifetime. The will further stipulated that a slave named Ceazor be given to John Baird, Jr., and that the sum of fifty dollars be set aside for taking care of the colored man during his lifetime. Deazor is buried in the Rev. John Baird Cemetery.
