Funeral services for Edward Lee Payne, age 91, of Virden, New Mexico, will be conducted Saturday, December 14, 2013, at 2:00 p.m., at the Duncan L.D.S. Stake Center by Bishop Travis Hatch of the Virden Ward.

Concluding services will follow in the Virden Cemetery.

Ed entered into eternal life late Wednesday evening, December 4, 2013, at the Sunshine Haven at Lordsburg.

Family will receive friends Saturday afternoon, December 14, 2013, from 1:00 p.m. until 1:45 p.m., at the Duncan L.D.S. Stake Center Relief Society Room.Payne, Edward Lee passed away December 4, 2013 in Lordsburg, NM.

Ed was born on the family farm in Virden, NM, on July 4, 1922. Ed married his childhood sweetheart, Amy Jean Hatch, on November 19, 1942, in the Mesa Arizona Temple. They have lived in Virden since that time where they worked, served, loved, and raised their family.

Survivors include his daughter, Linda (Dennis) Hunt of Joseph City, Ariz., Richard (Dorinda) Payne of Fayetteville, NC, Mike Payne of Kalispell, Mont., John (Wendy) Payne of Virden, NM, Debra (Charlie) Hampton of Eagle Butte, SD, 31 grandchildren, 70 great grandchildren, and three great great grandchild. He is also survived by his brother, William Harold Payne of Las Cruces, NM, and sisters Edna Christensen of Mesa, Ariz., and Virla Jane Merrill of Salt Lake City, Utah.

He was preceded in death by four infant daughters, Sarah Edna Payne, Cora May Payne, Mary Jane Payne, Jeanine Payne, and also his son Dennis Lee Payne.
