Stone Mountain, GA – Sandra Kay Smith Saxon, a nearly 45 year resident of Gwinnett County, Stone Mountain, Georgia's Mountain Park Community, died 3:30 p.m. December 2, 2013 at Emory's emergency room after suffering all year from radiation and chemotherapy.

Born in Stephens County, Georgia, she was the daughter of the late James Berman and Willie M. Walters Smith. Mrs. Saxon was raised and resided in Madison, South Carolina – Oconee County, for almost 25 years. She graduated from Cleveland School and later from Anderson and Lander College where she received her teaching degree. She taught for almost 35 years in DeKalb Co., Georgia's Laurel Ridge and Glen Haven Elementary Schools. She attended and was a member of Old Liberty Baptist for close to 25 years, a near 45 year member of Gwinnett County's Mountain Park Baptist and would attend numerous southern gospel conventional singings throughout the south. Sandra loved visiting and keeping up with her family and friends who will miss her as well as her cat.

Mrs. Saxon is survived by her husband of close to 45 years, Zane D. Saxon, (originally from Haralson Co., Tallapoosa, GA's Steadman Community) of Gwinnett Co., Stone Mountain, GA and son, James Robert JimBob Saxon, as well as two aunts and two uncles of South Carolina and many cousins and their families.

A memorial service will be held 2 p.m., Saturday, December 7, 2013 at Old Liberty Baptist Church. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.
