Anthony Lamirand was born on April 8, 1844 in Buffalo, New York. By 1860 the family had moved to South Bend, Indiana and on January 12, 1864, Anthony entered the military. He was mustered into the 21st Light Artillery brigade, which had been organized in Indianapolis on September 19, 1862.
Soon after entering, his unit was sent to Chattanooga, Tennessee and remained there until March 26, 1864. From there they marched to Columbia, where they stayed until November 24th. Soon after they marched on to Nashville, where they fought in the battle for Nashville on December 15th and 16th of 1864. They were then garrisoned in Nashville after the battle and remained there until the wars end, when Anthony and the rest of the troops were mustered out of service on June 26, 1865.
After the war Anthony returned to South Bend and found work as a carpenter. He married Emily Brissette in 1866 at Niles Michigan and returned to South Bend, continuing his work as a carpenter. Over time they had seven sons and three daughters.
In 1884 the family moved to Rossville, Kansas, where Anthony was a farmer.
Sometime around 1890 the family moved to Indian Territory and settled near present day Wanette, but Anthony passed away on February 26, 1893. He is buried in the Wanette cemetery. Further tragedy struck on January 31, 1895 when Emily suffered fatal burns after falling on a stove "while in a fit". By Things Forgotten 10-24-2016
