Wallace James Rice, 88 of Independence, MO passed away, Tuesday, December 3, 2013 at Rosewood Health Center. Services will be 10:00 a.m., Monday, December 9, 2013 at the community room and The Groves Retirement Community, 1600 W. White Oak, Independence, MO 64050. Burial will be in Mound Grove Cemetery. Visitation will be from 9:00 a.m., until service time Monday at the community room. Donations to The Groves Congregation of the Community of Christ. Wallace was born July 2, 1925 in Cameron, MO to Milton F. and Annabel Maxine (Carroll) Rice. He graduated high school in Cameron, MO and received a bachelor's degree in education. He taught public schools from the early 1950's until the early 1970's. He later worked in security, and volunteered his time for several organizations including the Community of Christ Temple and the Groves Community Hospice. He proudly served in the US Navy during WWII. He enjoyed music and was a member of the Messiah Choir from 1950 until 2008 as well as a member of the choir at the Stone Church, Community of Christ. He was an active member and elder in the Community of Christ. He was married to June (Robb) on December 22, 1950; she survives of the home. Other survivors include; 2 daughters, Janet and Joanna; a son, Robert and 4 grandchildren.
