Theodore R. "Ted" Freeman, Jr. passed away peacefully at home Wednesday, December 4, 2013.

He was born January 8, 1931 in Leicester, NC, the oldest son and second child of Theodore R Freeman Sr and Belva Gosnell Freeman. In September of 1947, Ted met the love of his life at the Rollerdrome in Asheville, NC. He married Marilyn Forbes on June 4, 1949 in Dunn, NC. Ted proudly served in the United States Army from 1949 until his honorable discharge in 1952 at the rank of corporal. He moved his family to San Antonio in 1952. For many years he worked in the automobile industry in the Alamo City, becoming the manager of the Main Lincoln Mercury dealership. He moved on to real estate and was the owner of San Antonio Real Estate until his retirement. He was a loving husband and father, and his family was the focus of his life. He was a great outdoor enthusiast whose hobbies included fishing, hunting and gardening. An honest, simple man, Ted enjoyed sitting on the front porch smoking his pipe and watching the day go by. "He's good to ride the river with." was a favorite quote of Ted's; meaning the person was reliable and could be counted on.

He was preceded in death by his parents and brother, Robert Freeman. Ted is survived by his wife, Marilyn; son Theodore R Freeman III of Austin; daughter Sheila Freeman Tobin (Phillip) of Bandera; sisters Mrs. Wanda (Ralph) Fisher, Mrs. Beatrice (Jimmy) Guthrie and Laura Louise (Bobby) White, all of North Carolina; brother Lattie Anson (Ann) Freeman, also of North Carolina; six grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.

Ted's family would like to offer their special thanks to Larry Hooker and to the staff of Harbor Hospice for their care and support.

The family will receive friends at Sunset Funeral Home, 1701 Austin Highway from 11:00 a.m. to 12:30 on Wednesday, December 11. Graveside services will be at Fort Sam Houston at 1:30 p.m.

In lieu of flowers, donations in Ted's name may be made to Saint Jude's Children's Hospital, Harbor Hospice, cancer research or the charity of your choice.
