Dr. Robert G. Hinrichs was born on a farm in Lizard township, Pocahontas County northwest of Manson. He attended a rural school in Lizard and later the Manson Public School. He was a pre-medical student at Drake University, Des Moines, and completed his course in medicine at Loyola University, New Orleans in 1915. He served his internship at St. Joseph Hospital in Ashland, Wisconsin. He then served as lieutenant in the army medical corps during World War I.

After service he returned to Manson in 1920 purchasing the practice of Dr. Hugh Mullarky.

He was president of the Manson board of education and a member of the board for many years. He was greatly interested in scouting and all outdoor activities and liked to fish.

He was a loyal supported of the Manson Community Club which voted him the Community Service Award of the year.
