HENDELY, Nebraska -- Leon Roy Yeager, age 84, of Hendley, died at the Good Samaritan Hospital in Kearney on Dec. 3, 2013.

He was born on the family farm south of Hendley, Nebraska, on Aug. 10, 1929, to Amil and Lydia (Bates) Yeager. He attended rural country school.

Leon helped on the family farm until he joined the U.S. Air Force in 1951. He served in Korea and was honorably discharged on Dec. 17, 1954. He returned to Hendley and continued farming.

He married Shirley Schmidt and to this union two sons were born: Alec and James.

Leon enjoyed woodworking. He also earned his private pilot's license and enjoyed flying.

Leon moved to Beaver City when his health declined. He was a member of the Burton's Bend VFW of Holbrook.

Leon was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Shirley in 2012 and a brother, Willard "Bill" Yeager.

He is survived by his sons, Alec of Hendley and James of Tennessee and a grandson Cody Yeager.

Graveside services will be at the Linden Cemetery in Hendley on Friday, Dec. 6, 2013, at 4 p.m. with the Rev. Clark Bates officiating. Military honors will be by the Burton's Bend VFW.

Memorials may be left in Leon's name at the Lockenour-Jones Mortuary in Cambridge.
