David Graham was born in Northern Ireland, possibly in Antrim. His mother was Elizabeth Graham (Please see her obituary). David's death certificate states that he was born the 10th of December 1838, but other documents state he was born earlier. He died the 15th of January 1908, but his tombstone states he died 1907. He first married Nancy Ann Madden. Shortly after the birth of their first son, Thomas James, David and Nancy Ann migrated to Philadelphia, PA. They left behind Thomas because he was a sickly child. Later, Thomas was brought to the US by a relative about 1863 even though the 1860 census counts Thomas as living with his parents. David and Nancy Ann had five children together; Thomas James(1855-1941), Elizabeth (1857-1878), David (1860-1920?), Nancy Ann(1862-1956) and John (1864-1865) who survived about six months after his mother died in childbirth. David then remarried the 27th of August 1867. His second wife was Matilda McKeown (1843-1907). They had seven children together; Sarah Jane(1868-1942), James(1870-1945), Robert M(1871-1897), Matilda(1873-1874), Joseph H (1875-1936), Rachael(1876) and Lizzie Maggie(1879). David came to Philadelphia to work as a carpet weaver. He became a naturalized citizen the 27th of September 1876. He signed the naturalization paper with his mark (X).
