THE DALLES, Ore. — Earl David Bonham, 91, of The Dalles, and a former longtime resident of Nampa, died Sunday, Aug. 25, 1985, in a nursing home at The Dalles.
Memorial services will be held at 4 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 29, at the First United Presbyterian Church, 400 Lake Lowell Ave., Nampa, with Rev. Lowell Byall officiating. Arrangements are under the direction of Smith Callaway Chapel, The Dalles.
Mr. Bonham, a former superintendent and principal of Nampa High School, was born May 20, 1894, at Howesville, Ind., a son of Edward Smith and Capitola Bonham. He graduated from Altus (Okla.) High School in 1911 and from the University of Oklahoma in 1917 where he was a member of Sigma Nu Fraternity. He was a veteran of World War I, having served with the U.S. Army 90th Division in France. He married Margaret Coleman in 1920. She died in 1980. He served as a school superintendent in Washington, and later as principal and superintendent in Nampa until his retirement in 1944. In his later years he farmed in the Deer Flat area south of Nampa.
He was a member and past president of the Nampa Rotary Club. He served on numerous governors' advisory committees and was active in the Republican Party. He was a member of the First United Presbyterian Church Nampa.
Survivors include a son, Edward of The Dalles; a sister, Myrtle, Hillemeyer of Albuquerque, N.M.; five grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.
Memorials may be made to the Earl D. Bonham Christian Education Fund, c/o the First United Presbyterian Church, Nampa.
