Mrs. Annie Steffen received word that the wife of Ira Abbott [sic], Mrs. Alice Abbott [sic], had died at Columbia.

Mrs. Ira Abbett Rites Held at Newark
Funeral services for Mrs. Bertie Alice Abbett, 74, were held Wednesday, Mar. 11, at 2:00 p.m., at the Newark Christian church with the Rev. Mr. Yates of St. Louis in charge. Mrs. Gayle Spees and Mr. and Mrs. John Ahern furnished the music for the service. Burial was in the Newark cemetery.
Pallbearers were nephews, Russell Abbett, Wilber Barnes, George Fordney, Noble Feigenspan, Lawrence Barnes and Asher Smith.
Bertie Alice Barnes Abbett was born Oct. 6, 1889, at Newark, Mo. the youngest of eight children of Albert and Annie Barnes. She was married to Ira Russell Abbett at Newark, Oct. 18, 1908, at the home of her parents. One daughter, Oneta Fern, was born to them.
Mrs. Abbett lived in and around Newark until moving to Columbia in 1938. She united with the Christian church at Newark Nov. 17, 1919. She entered the Hartley nursing home Jan. 11, 1964.
Mrs. Abbett died Sunday morning, Mar. 8. Her parents, four sisters and a brother preceded her in death.
Survivors include her husband; daughter, Mrs. Oneta Pierce; two grandchildren, Mrs. Joyce Minor and Royce Pierce; two great grandchildren, Teri Lynn and Leslie Jay Minor, all of Columbia; two brothers Jake Barnes and Ben Barnes of Newark; several nieces and nephews.
