Lawrance Andrew "Clark" Hayes was the Fifth of nine children born to Alvin Clark Hayes and Blanche May Harvey. He was born in Aitkin, Morrison, Minnesota and lived in Nebraska, Colorado and California. He married Mary Avis White and unofficially adopted his sister Lois' son Clark "Clipp" and raised him as their own. Clark "Clipp" was the biological son of Lloyd White, who was Mary Avis White's older brother and Lois Hayes who was Clark's sister. The family understood that Clark died in California and his body cremated, it is unknown what happened to his remains.

His unofficially adopted son Clark "Clipp" (White)HAYES moved back to Colorado as an adult and worked for the Department of Corrections and then for the Colorado State Hospital. He understood that he had been legally adopted by his uncle and aunt, but when he went back to California to assist his aunt Mary with her health problems, he was told by her family that he was not adopted legally.
