JOEL T. HOWE DIES HERE AT AGE OF 76
Former Superintendent of Oneida County Home
LONG ACTIVE MEMBER OF REPUBLICAN PARTY
Had Been Resident of Rome For 65 Years
Joel T. Howe, former superintendent of the Oneida County Home in this city, prominent Rome farmer and resident here for the past 65 years, passed away shortly after 6 o'clock this morning at his home on the Verona road.
He was 76 years old.
In poor health for several years. Mr. Howe had been ill a week with a cold. Death was due to pneumonia.
Mr. Howe, who retired in 1923, after serving nine years as head of the institution for the county poor here, was for many years active in the affairs of the Republican party.
From 1906 to 1915 he was a member of the board of assessors and he had also been town highway commissioner.
He was born at Willoughby. Ohio. Feb. 9, 1856. a son of the late Charles C. and Sara Gray Howe.
Two years after the death of his father in 1865 he came to Rome, where he had since resided.
While in Greenway Mr. Howe conducted one of the finest farms in this section, comprising about 157 acres. He had lived at the present home for several years.
In this city 33 years ago he married Mary Wheeler, daughter of George I. Wheeler of this city, who survives, with two daughters. Mrs. C. J. Bradt of Ithaca and Mrs. Roy Salm of Rome. He also leaves a sister, Mrs. F. B. Wheeler of Rome and two brothers, Alva of Rome and Charles of Lakeland, Fla. There are two grandchildren, Roy Ann Salm and Robert Bradt.
Mr. Howe attended the First Presbyterian Church in Rome nnd
was a member of Rome Council, No. 150, Royal Arcanum

The Rev. Dr. Philip H. Cole of the First Presbyterian Church officiated, at services for Joel T. Howe, yesterday afternoon at 2:30 o'clock at the Howe home on theRome-Oneida road. The remains were interred at Verona cemetery.
Nephews of Mr. Howe, former superintendent of the Oneida County Home In this city, served as bearers. They were A. Gray Howe sr.. Clifford Howe, A. Gray Howe jr., Allan Hendey, Stewart Caddick and Lyle Resalgue.
Rome Council, No. 150. Royal Arcanum, Humphrey Floral Company, neighbors, Z. & M. Independent Oil Company, relatives and friends sent flowers.
