Joyce Arnold, 83, died Nov. 25, 2013, at her home in Murfreesboro, Tenn.
She was a native of Elmer, Okla., and the daughter of the late Wiley Tucker and Kate Mayo Tucker.
Ms. Arnold attended Southside School in Hess, Okla. After graduating in 1948, she attended college in Wichita Falls, Texas. Shortly after, she met and married, Cliff Arnold, a member of the U.S. Air Force.
The couple traveled the world and fulfilled her lifelong ambition to see faraway places. Along the way, they had three children, Charlotte, Trip and Brenda.
In 1965, she moved to Murfreesboro and become a committed member of Saint Mark's United Methodist Church and served for more than 46 years in many capacities. Ms. Arnold was always proud to help church members in any endeavor.
In addition to her many years at Saint Mark's United Methodist Church, she also served her community in many ways through organizations like Community Helpers and Room at the Inn. After many jobs as an administrative assistant for businesses in Murfreesboro, she retired as the volunteer coordinator at the Veterans Administration Hospital in 1994. She then went to work part time as a manager for Sanbyrn Hall Condominiums, where she worked for 12 years.
She also enjoyed landscaping and decorating her home.
In 2009, she married Vernon Burrow, a Cumberland Presbyterian minister. His church, New Hope Cumberland Presbyterian Church, welcomed her with open arms. She spent four wonderful years with Burrow and his church. In four short years, she made a difference in the lives of many people and greatly strengthened New Hope Church. She was truly a partner in ministry with Mr. Burrow.
Ms. Arnold is preceded in death by her first husband, Clifford Bryant Arnold Jr., who died in 1986; and sister, Peggy Jackson.
She is survived by her second husband, Vernon Burrow; son, Clifford B. Arnold III; daughters, Charlotte McAnally and her husband, Harry, and Brenda Cobble and her husband, K.C., all of Smyrna; brothers, J.L. Tucker, of Elmer, Jimmy Dan Tucker and his wife, Frances, of Denison, Texas, and Bob Tucker of Elmer; sisters, Blanche Booth and her husband, Bob, of Nocona, Texas, Billye McLaughlin, of Scottsdale, Ariz., and Fern Hasty and her husband, Preston, of Arlington, Texas.
She is also survived by grandchildren Monica Museler and her husband, Michael, Kate Andrews and her husband, Clint, Joseph Rollins and his wife, Joshua, Amanda Rollins, Andy Rollins, Cody Cobble, Chad Cobble and his wife, Shannon, Kasey Cobble and his wife, Julie, and Josh Cobble and his wife Sara.
She was the proud and loving great grandmother to 15 great-grandchildren.
In addition, she is survived by her four sisters-in-law, Alice Cook, Annie Harper, Janie Blair and Dorothy Morris. She is also survived by many nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be held from 4 p.m. till 8 p.m. Friday, Nov. 29, at Woodfin Memorial Chapel.
Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 30, at Saint Mark's United Methodist Church. Revs. Martha Touchton and Jim Clardy will officiate. Burial will follow at Evergreen Cemetery. Grandsons and sons-in-law will serve as active pallbearers. Honorary Pallbearers will be the Dan Scott Sunday School Class at Saint Marks United Methodist Church.
