BIO:
Henry Lee Neal
Henry Lee Neal is the son of William Riley & Leona (Colby) Neal. He enlisted, June 9, 1917, in the U.S. Navy, at Oklahoma City, Oklahoma. He rose from apprentice seaman to radio electrician (operator).
He served at Naval Training Station, San Francisco, Calif., Harvard Radio School, Cambridge, Mass, U.S. Navy Yard, Norfolk, VA, and aboard the armed freighter U.S.S. Ceasar.
At Norfolk, VA, he handled four or five codes in the translating room.
Foreign ports visited were, Bordeaux, France; Plymouth, England; and Invergordan (near Inverness), Scotland.
His ship carried artillery harness and T.N.T.
The most beautiful ocean views were Newport, R.I., and the chalk cliffs of eastern England. He also experienced several bad storms at sea. At times it seemed that the ship could hardly stand up under such lashing of the winds and waves.
He married Mamie Hardin on 1921 in Ada, Oklahoma. Their children were James Henry Neal, Leona Mamie Neal, Princess Madalene Neal and Victor Ray Neal.

NEWSPAPER ARTICLE:
Wanette News, Nov 6, 1941
Postmaster Henry L. NEAL and assistants had one day last week in which they were sitting around most of the time waiting for something to happen. That day there were no trains bringing in mail, and the star route did not get in until four o’clock in the afternoon. When the mail did begin coming in they were kept on the jump for a while, but it didn’t take them long to have things running smoothly. We haven’t interviewed the rural carriers yet and will probably wait until their nerves and tempers are again normal. (Note: Henry L. Neal was the postmaster at WANETTE for many years.)
