Lula Ellen Townsend Church, 90, of Johnson City died Thursday, November 28, 2013 at the Lakebridge Health Care Center.

She was a native of Benhams, Virginia, daughter of the late John Robert and Nettie Herndon Townsend.

Lula was retired from ETSU as a supervisor of student laws and grants for over forty years. She was a longtime member of the Princeton Presbyterian Church and had served as treasurer. Lula was an avid golfer and enjoyed dancing.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 67 years, Tracy L. Church, four brothers, Glen, Claude, William and Charlie Townsend; four sisters, Callie Rowe, Mary Canter, Margaret Worley and Dora Miller.

Survivors include several nieces and nephews.

A funeral service is scheduled for Monday, December 2, 2013 at 11:30 am under the direction of Dr. Calvin Jett in the North Chapel of the Morris – Baker Funeral Home. A committal service will follow at Mountain Home National Cemetery. The family will receive friends on Sunday, December 1, 2013 from 5:00 pm until 7:00 pm in the North Chapel of the Morris – Baker Funeral Home. Active pallbearers will be selected from family and friends.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Princeton Presbyterian Church, 2703 E. Oakland Avenue, Johnson City, TN 37601.
