Opal Alice Bays, of Dixon, was born on February 17, 1914, at St. Louis, a daughter of Benjamin Harrison and Helen Mae Tibbs Davis and departed this life at 1:05 p.m., Wednesday afternoon, May 15, 2002, in the Christian Health Care Center, Dixon. Mrs. Bays had been in failing health for some time and had attained the age of 88 years, two months and 29 days.
Mrs. Bays was united in marriage on January 17, 1931, at Vienna, to James Clint Bays and to this union two daughters were born. She was preceded in death by her husband on October 12, 1980; her parents; and one son-in-law: Russell Miller on March 28, 1998.
Mrs. Bays was a member of the Dixon United Methodist Church and prior to the death of her husband, she had attended the Burnett Christian Church, Dixon. In earlier years she was a member of the Hancock Extension Club and enjoyed Cardinal Baseball and politics. She was employed by the Fort Leonard Wood Post Exchange beginning in 1950 in the Warehouse and at the time of her retirement in 1973 was the Chief Purchasing Agent.
Those left to mourn the passing of Mrs. Bays include two daughters and one son-in-law: Yvonne Miller, Jefferson City and Barbara and Wilbur Warman, Dixon; one sister and brother-in-law: Georgia and Paul Penno, Grand Haven, Michigan; seven grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; five great-greatgrandchildren; and many other relatives and friends.
Fond and precious memories of Mrs. Bays will long be remembered in the hearts of her dear family and all who knew and loved her.
Funeral services were conducted for Mrs. Bays at 2:00 p.m., on Sunday afternoon, May 19, 2002, in the Dixon Chapel of the Birmingham-Martin Funeral Homes with the Rev, Tony . Townley, Linn, officiating. Carolyn Rollins and Rhonda Holman sang "Home Of The Soul" and "It Is Well With My Soul" for the funeral service and was accompanied by pianist, Betty Doyel, who also played "Whispering Hope and "Beyond The Sunset" for the prelude and appropriate selections for the postlude to the service.


Interment was in the Dixon Cemetery under the direction of the Dixon Chapel of the Birmingham-Martin Funeral Homes. Active pallbearers for Mrs. Bays were Mike Warman, Jim Warman, Randy Warman, Nathan Warman, Bill War!a,n pinion Warman, Alan Green-berg and Scott Greenberg.__
