Watertown- Ralph J. Tanner, Sr., 89 of East Main St, Watertown died Saturday evening at the Lewis County General Hospital where he had been a patient since Tuesday.

Mr. Tanner was born August 30, 1924 in Watertown to Earl A. and Mary (Miller) Tanner. He attended Watertown Schools. Mr. Tanner served in the United States Army in Germany during WWII. He later became a union steamfitter for Local 117 in Watertown.

He married Bernice L. Belcher, September 17, 1945 in Watertown. She died January 4, 2008.

Mr. Tanner was National President of the Mobile Communication Emergency Unit and enjoyed playing golf.

Surviving are his son Ralph J. Tanner, Jr., OK, two grandchildren Phillip Tanner, and Tina Tanner, four great grandchildren Phillip Michael, Brittany, Nicole and Ryan Tanner, He was predeceased by his wife Bernice, a daughter Patricia Tanner and daughter in law Sharon A. Tanner.

The funeral service will be Friday November 29, 2013 at 1:00pm at the Reed & Benoit Funeral Home, burial will follow at North Watertown Cemetery .
