LYONS, Neb. -- Harvey Isaiah Bray, 84, of Lyons died Tuesday, Jan. 25, 2005, at Oakland Memorial Hospital in Oakland, Neb.

Services will be 10 a.m. Friday at Memorial United Methodist Church in Lyons, with the Rev. Ralph Ford officiating. Burial will be in Lyons Cemetery, with military rites conducted by the Veterans of Foreign Wars Robert Klase Post 7998 and the American Legion Harvey Lenig Post 83, both of Lyons. Visitation will be 2 to 8 p.m. today, with the family present 6 to 8 p.m. and a prayer service at 7 p.m., at the church. Visitation will resume 9 a.m. until service time Friday at the church. Arrangements are under the direction of Piper Funeral Home in Lyons.

Harvey Isaiah Bray was born June 15, 1920, near Decatur, Neb., the son of James Harvey "Joe" Bray Jr. and Ruth Charlotte (Reed) Bray. He grew up in the Quinnebaugh area, near Decatur and attended Riverside School. He attended Tekamah (Neb.) High School, playing football and boxing. He graduated in 1939. From 1941 to 1945, he was a sergeant in the U.S. Army. He was awarded a Bronze Star Medal for his service in Europe with the 3rd Armored Division.

He was united in marriage to Esther L. Grenier on Dec. 24, 1948, by a Baptist minister in Sioux City. They farmed for five years in the Divide Center area before moving to the Grenier family homestead. He moved to Logan Valley Manor in Lyons in 2000.

He was baptized, with other family members, when they joined the Memorial United Methodist Church on May 14, 1967. He was a life member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars Robert Klase Post 7998 and Memorial United Methodist Church.

He is survived by three children and their spouses, LeRoy and Anita Bray of Rosalie, Neb., Janet and Curt Steinquist of Waukesha, Wis., and Don and Jan Bray of Rosalie, Neb.; seven grandchildren, Sarah Steinquist, Pedar Steinquist, Geoff Bray, Julie Bray, Jessica Wiese, Nick Wiese and Nate Wiese; a brother and his wife, George and Erma Bray of Lyons; and a brother-in-law, Gerald "Bud" Hanslip of Sioux City.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Esther; a daughter, Jo Ann; his parents, Joe and Ruth Bray; and two sisters, Mary Jane Hanslip and Lorna Scott.

Pallbearers will be Ray Peterson, Joe Mallette, Jim Kroger, Richard Erickson, Harold Wynn and Harold Palmer.
