Bernice was born in Sisseton, SD, the daughter of James and Ingeborg Chilson. At a young age she moved with her family to a farm southwest of Bergen, ND, where she was raised and educated. On August 18, 1928, she married Arthur Holte. After their marriage they farmed in Voltaire Township, McHenry County, east of Voltaire, ND. Mr. Holte passed away in March of 1985. She continued to live there until moving to Velva, ND, in 1989. In June of 1992 she entered the Souris Valley Care Center in Velva where she since had resided. Mrs. Holte was a member of Hjerdahl Lutheran Church, rural Voltaire and the ladies aid of the church, and was a member of the Voltaire Homemakers Club. Survivors: five sons, one daughter, 22 grandchildren, 37 great-grandchildren, three great-great-grandchildren, and three sisters. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, four sisters , six brothers and one grandchild.
