Ella Irene Amdor, daughter of William and Anna Toohey Devereaux was born July 30, 1899 in Adams County west of Carbon, Iowa and entered into rest December 7, 1991 at the Good Samaritan Care Center, Villisca, Iowa at the age of 92 years, 4 months, and 7 days.

She attended rural schools through the 8th grade and Corning High School, graduating in 1918. While in high school, she worked Saturdays and during summer vacation for A.B. Turner store. Following graduation, she worked there full time as bookkeeper until her marriage.

On June 10, 1919 Ella was united in marriage with Bennett Nicholas Amdor at St. Patrick Catholic Church in Corning, Iowa. Seven children were born to bless this union. They owned and farmed the land north of Carbon which had been homesteaded by Ben's father Edward R. Amdor, and were very honored and proud to receive the Century Farm award in 1975 designating a farm owned by one family for one hundred years. Ella loved to garden, and with the help of the entire family, managed to can over 500 quarts of fruits and vegetables each year. She also was an accomplished seamstress and made most of the family's clothes.

She was a life-long member of St. Patrick Church, having been baptized, confirmed, and married in the original church. Her life was centered around her family, church, and music. She was happiest when folks gathered around the piano for songfests. Music filled her home. She was an active member of St. Patrick Altar Society, Rose Ann Auxiliary and D.Y.D. card club as long as her health permitted. She spent many years of volunteer work in the dollar shop.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Ben, two daughters, Virginia in infancy and Helen Marie in 1937 at age 13, her daughter-in-law, Inez Amdor, 4 brothers and 5 sisters.

Ella is survived by five children, Jack Amdor (wife Doris) and Barbara Shuler (husband Olin) all of Corning; William Amdor and Beth Mueller (husband Harry), all of Omaha, Nebraska; and Edward Amdor (wife Jinx) of Bedford, Iowa; 21 grandchildren, 52 great-grandchildren, 8 great-great-grandchildren; a sister-in-law, Dorothy Devereaux of Creston; many nieces, nephews, other relatives, and a host of friends.
