Son of Frederick William Tanner and Mary {Dodds} Tanner of Ontario and later of Calgary, Alberta

Born at Strathroy, Caradoc Township, Middlesex County, Ontario, at a very young age Harold's father, a banker, moved their family out to the prairie provinces, living at Edmonton (1911), Moose Jaw (1916) and Regina (1921)

Harold Tanner was an accountant and investment dealer, doing business in Regina Saskatchewan, Calgary and Red Deer Alberta, as well as Victoria British Columbia

On May 24, 1925 at Regina, he married firstly to Ella Jean Craig (1897 – 1928); they had one son

In later life but prior to 1972, he married Beatrice Joan Fortt of Victoria, British Columbia

Harold and Joan resided primarily in Calgary, Alberta and appear to have had a second home at Victoria, near Joan's parents. Harold died of an aortic aneurysm in his 82nd year
