John Berry (the younger)was son of John Berry (the older) and Nancy Claybrook Berry. He married Elvira Alice Defoe on 28 Oct 1866 in Moniteau Co, Missouri. Known children include: Nannie (1873-1960)), John W (1873-1928), Melcini "Mellie" (1877-1953), Virginia (1878-infancy?), Lewis C. (1880-infancy?), Hettie (1881-1952), Geneva "Jennie" Maude (1884-1939), Missouri (1886-after 1933), Grace Elizabeth (1887-1948). On the 1900 census Alice is listed as being the mother of 11 children with 7 surviving in 1900. Her obituary stated she was mother of 12 children, 5 of whom died in infancy.

John's obit (posted here) states he was buried in the "old Berry Cemetery" on ..."what is known as the McCann Farm." This was a family cemetery on land John and Nancy Claybrook Berry owned which was later sold to the McCann family. Apparently John (1840-1902) did not have a tombstone or it was destroyed over the years. The Old Berry-McCann cemetery was restored several years ago and there was no headstone/ tombstone found for him.
