WASHINGTON — Bert Eugene Bennett, 72, Washington, passed away Wednesday at St. Mary's Hospital in Evansville.

Born Nov., 24, 1940 in Chicago, he was the son of Bert W. Bennett and Mary (Millay) Bennett.



A 1958 graduate of Owensboro Catholic High School, he retired as a lab technician for Hampshire Chemical for 30 years.

He was a Kentucky Colonel, a member of Indiana Relief Society and Hadi Shrine in Owensboro, Ky., and a volunteer at Daviess Community Hospital.

He is survived by his wife, Shelia (Jackson) Bennett, whom he married on Nov. 24, 1962; a son, Robert Eugene Bennett of Bridgeport, Ill.; a daughter, Holly Elizabeth Phillips of Washington; seven grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; two sisters, Barbara Dillehay of Patoka and Brenda Hauser of Owensboro; and two brothers, Robert Bennett of Maceo, Ky., and Bruce Bennett of Owensboro.

A memorial service was held from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. Monday at Poindexter-McClure Funeral Home, Washington Chapel.
