Commonly known as "Mort" and "Morton." His signature often shown as "M. Hays." Middle name incorrectly reported as "Martin" in his brief California death notice. An addditional middle name of "Parker" has shown up in some records. It is assumed he has two given name of "Morton" and "Parker" even though "Morton" is found in most records. Oliver's name shown as "Oliver Perry Morton Hays" in a Washington County, Iowa Marriage Index which disagrees with some Hays genealogists.
Oliver was a son of John Hays (1829-1903) & Melissa F. Jacobs (1831-1909).
Oliver married Martha Rozella Bales (1860-1945) on December 30, 1880 in Washington County, Iowa. They had seven identified children.
