Arietta Cook
December 21, 1921 - November 20, 2013

On Wednesday, November 20th, 2013, Mrs. America Arietta Cook, of Amarillo, Texas, passed away peacefully in her sleep.

Mrs. Cook was born in Maud, Oklahoma, in 1921 and married James R. Cook in 1941. They had two children, James and Sharon, and made their home in Texas in 1945.

Mrs. Cook went to work for the Texas Liquor Control Board in 1956 as a secretary. Mrs. Cook was said to have helped in the training of many of the fine men and women who worked in the Amarillo office through the years. Mrs. Cook finally decided it was time for her to retire in 1987 when they announced they would be moving from typewriters to the agency's first computer system M204. Even though she was retired she still kept up with her old friends and family from the TABC through her association with the TABC Retired Officers Association. She enjoyed seeing her old friends again and her granddaughter, Lt. Tana Travis, made sure she was able to attend every year.

Mrs. Cook enjoyed traveling and walking at the mall each morning as her health permitted. She was a past member of Merry Homemakers Extension Club.

Honorary pallbearers are Audy Jones, Robert C Russell Jr, David W Perry, Jr., Bill Robinson and Dick Gillespie.

Mrs. Cook is preceded in death by her husband, James R. Cook, parents, Ernest and Serena Sparkman, brother, Glenn Sparkman, sister, Mary C Seaton and sister, Francis Parvie and grandson, Kevin Michael Armstrong.

Mrs. Cook is survived by her son, James Cook, of Amarillo, daughter, Sharon Armstrong and husband, Mike of Amarillo, Texas, granddaughter, Tana Travis, of Houston, granddaughter, Dawn Willburn of Amarillo and great granddaughter Taylor Travis of Stephenville, Texas. She is also survived by her brother Eldon Sparkman and wife Linda of Abernathy, Texas and Sister Maude and husband Raymond Dotson of Sherman, Texas and numerous nieces, nephews.

In lieu of flowers the family requests donations be made to Bykota Baptist Church, 4022 NE 26th, Amarillo, Texas, 79107, where she was a lifelong member.
