She was born May 23, 1944 at Detroit Lakes, MN to Marian E. (Roberts) & Clarence E. Anderson. She grew up on the family farm near Rollag, MN. Nancy attended Hawley, MN high school, graduating in 1962. At age 18, she moved to Sacramento, CA and worked in food service, primarily near the state capitol managing the frequent banquets for the personnel of the capitol.
She was united in marriage to Michael Jay Houghton on August 13, 1985 at Sacramento, CA. They moved to Nevis, MN in 1987 where she truly loved the outdoors; camping, going for walks with her dogs and cats, gardening flowers, and raising miniature horses for which she had many National Champions over 20 years. She conducted animal rescue, loved the ocean, and loved to visit with the elderly and children. Nancy also was well versed in politics.
She is survived by her husband- Mike Houghton of Nevis, MN; her son - Lonnie Hillyard of Citrus Heights, CA; 2 step-daughters - Megan (Ian) Saylor of Nashville, TN, & Marcie Houghton of Citrus Heights, CA; 2 grand-daughters -Jessica Hillyard & Zoe Saylor, & 1 grand-son Finnigan Saylor.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her first, husband- James Hillyard and 1 sister- Judy Anderson.
Memorial Services will be held on Tuesday, January 26, 2010 at the Cease Family Funeral Home Chapel in Nevis, MN at 2:00 PM with a social gathering 1 hour prior to services. Nancy's favorite recorded music will be played. A private family inurnment will be at a later time.
