Frieda Frank Cooper "Frankie" died peaceably on Tuesday, November 19, 2013, at the age of 103. The oldest child of the late Harry and Dora (Traube) Frank, she was born in St. Louis, MO, on November 28, 1909. Frankie grew up in Little Rock, AR, and moved to Memphis as a young woman to manage Lerner's Store. In 1937, she married Sam Cooper, and they shared sixty-one years together, until his death in 1999. She was an integral part of his many charitable, fund-raising campaigns. She was active in the Temple Israel Sisterhood, where she headed its annual flower bulb sales project for over 40 years. She was also active in the Women's Exchange where she served as treasurer. She was predeceased by her husband, Sam Cooper; a daughter, Beverly Cooper Howard; a sister, Cel Groskind; and two brothers, Herbert Frank and Theodore Frank. Frankie was a wonderful mother, grandmother, and great grandmother to her family, all of whom lovingly called her "Honey." Her smile and her warm heart lightened the world for all who knew her. Surviving are her three daughters and sons-in-law, Joyce and Fred Graflund and Carol and Henry Levy of Memphis, and Anita Cooper and Michael McDonald of Godfrey, IL. Also surviving are eight grandchildren: Greg (Jill) Graflund, Leslie (David) Wimmer, Dan (Allison) Howard, David Levy, Clare (Robin) Clarke, Jeffrey (Lacy) McDonald, Daniel McDonald and Alexander McDonald; and seven great grandchildren: Ashley and Alex Graflund, Sam and Max Wimmer, Matt and Kate Howard, and Norah Clarke. Services will be 2:30 p.m., Thursday, November 21, at the Levy-Cooper Chapel in Temple Israel Cemetery, 1708 Hernando Road, Memphis. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations in her memory be made to Temple Israel or a charity of the donor's choice. (Published in The Commercial Appeal on November 2, 2013)
