The Texas Rodeo Hall of Fame Inductee

Delbert "Dale" Cooper, "Tuffy" to those who know him, was born on November 11, 1925 in New Mexico and his rodeo career began in 1935.

Tuffy competed in many rodeo events; excelling in the calf roping, steer roping and team roping events.

He placed well at many of the Pecos Rodeos over the years and considered that venue to be one of his favorites.

He was also a well respected rodeo announcer and judge.

Tuffy was inducted into the New Mexico School Board Hall of Fame and was a founding father of the Lea County Cowboy Hall of Fame.

To add to his illustrious career accomplishments, he served as a spokesman for the PRCA for 12 years and was an "instructor of roping" not only in the United States but Australia as well.

Tuffy Cooper and his wife, Betty have three children. Betty Gayle (deceased), Roy and Clay Tom.

Son, Roy is an eight time PRCA Calf Roping Champion and Clay Tom has qualified for the National Finals twice.

Tuffy's grandson, Clint Cooper has qualified for the National finals once.

Tuffy is also survived by a brother Jimmy Cooper of Monument, New Mexico as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
