Son of Thomas Adcock and Charlotte Anderson who were married on the 5th February 1793 at Ashby-de-la-Zouch, North Leicestershire.


He was baptized on the 11th October 1807 in Ashby-de-la-Zouche, Leicestershire.


John married Eliza Spencer on the 10th September 1833 at St. Laurence's Church, Foleshill, Coventry, Warwickshire. An article in the Coventry Herald dated the 20th September 1833, states the at the time of his marriage John Adcock was a hairdresser.

John, who was a ribbon manufacturer, Eliza and their children lived in Coventry, out of their five daughters only Clara, the youngest, went to marry.


The 1881 Census states that John was a retired ribbon manufacturer, living with Eliza and two of their grown up children, at 91, Little Park Street, Coventry.

The Will of John Adcock, late of the City of Coventry, died 14th October 1888 at Coventry, was proved at Birmingham by Charles Adcock of the said City, Woollen Merchant, the Son, and Frederick Gibbs, of the Borough of Nottingham, in the County of Nottingham, Jeweller, two of the Executors. Personal Estate: £11,180 10s 4d

John died at his residence, 8, Grosvenor Road, Coventry, aged 81.

Resting with Eliza, and their daughters, Emma, and Amelia.
