In respecting her wishes, there will not be a public funeral service. Mildred's immediate family will celebrate her life on Thanksgiving Day. Arrangements are under the direction of Meyer Brothers Colonial Chapel.
Mildred was born Feb. 1, 1923, in Sloan, Iowa, to Henry and Eva (Davis) Burge. Her family moved to Sioux City when she was young, and she attended Sioux City Schools.
She was joined in marriage to Deno B. Aguirre in Sioux City on Sept. 27, 1940. Deno preceded her in death in 2008 after 67 years of marriage. They were blessed with five children.
During the course of her life, Mildred worked at Wincharger, Johnson Biscuit, Gordon Memorial Hospital and Sioux City Head Start. Mildred loved all her children and all the animals those same children brought home. She enjoyed watching baseball and football. In her retirement, she and Deno spent many hours in their summer garden.
Left to cherish her memory are her daughters, Donna Ziehm and husband, Gene of Fort Collins, Colo., Janet Mechikoff and her husband, Bill of Sioux City, Barbara Fowler of Holstein, Iowa; sons, Ramon Aguirre and Roman Aguirre, both of Sioux City. She is also survived by her sisters-in-law, Josephine Nelson of White Bear Lake, Minn., Dolores Lang of Sioux City, Rose Aguirre of Sioux City, and Mary Coon and her husband, John of Sioux City; her brother-in-law, Roman Aguirre and his wife, Merci of Omaha; a godson, Ronald Lang of Washington. Mildred's grandchildren are April and Mark Lestico, David and Lori Swenson, John and Cheryl Swenson, Matthew Swenson, Dr. Angela and Steve Stokes, Kristi and John Ward, Richard Mechikoff, Nick and Terri Mechikoff, Jennifer and Brent Patterson, Marc and Gina Fowler, Kelly Valdez, Charles and Tamara Fowler, Corey Aguirre, Justin Aguirre, Nikayla Aguirre and Joseph Aguirre. She has 23 great-grandchildren and six great-great-grandchildren.
